The introduction of the Fulvia saloon in 1963 maintained Lancia's reputation for innovation in automobile design. Designed by Antonio Fessia, the boxy-styled Appia replacement featured an all-new, narrow-angle, V4, overhead-camshaft engine; front wheel drive; independent front suspension by double wishbones; and disc brakes all round. A 2+2 coupé on a shorter wheelbase was launched in 1965. Though mechanically similar, the beautiful newcomer had all the visual presence its progenitor lacked and came with a 1,216cc engine producing 80bhp. In 1967 the model was up-rated with the 1,298cc, 85bhp engine, becoming the Fulvia 'Rallye 1.3', which was further upgraded to 92bhp 'Rallye 1.3 S' specification in 1968.
Introduced in 1970, the Series II models were mildly restyled and gained a five-speed gearbox and up-rated Girling disc brakes while retaining the 1,298cc engine of the later Series I cars. Tuned, lightweight 'HF' versions provided increased performance and formed the basis of the works' highly successful rally programme that saw the Fulvia HF1600 secure Lancia's first Manufacturers' World Championship in 1972. A landmark model of immense significance, the Fulvia, and the 1600 HF version in particular, effectively established Lancia's considerable reputation on the World Rallying stage and paved the way for the legendary Stratos, Rally 037 and Delta Integrale models.

This Fulvia Coupé 1.3 S has recently been professionally resprayed in its original colour, with new Marlboro San Remo Rally vinyl. Other new components include the steering wheel; upholstery; carpet; seals; ignition; and exhaust, while the carburettors and brakes have been restored. According to our vendor, the car is very agile and great fun to drive on twisty roads. It sounds nice too, while the low weight makes it the most fun front-wheel-drive Lancia the vendor has experienced, and much more spacious than it looks. The car is offered with a clean Spanish title.
