Footnotes

It was the need for a production-based engine for the new Formula 2 that had prompted the introduction of a 'junior' Ferrari, the Dino 206GT, at the Turin Motor Show in 1967. A compact, aluminium-bodied coupe of striking appearance, the Pininfarina-styled Dino - named after Enzo Ferrari's late son Alfredino Ferrari and intended as the first of a separate but related marque - was powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cam V6 driving through an in-unit five-speed transaxle.

A 2.4-litre version on a longer wheelbase - the 246 GT - replaced the Dino 206 in late 1969. The body was now steel and the cylinder block cast-iron rather than aluminium, but the bigger engine's increased power - 195bhp at 7,600rpm - was adequate compensation for the weight gain. A Targa-top spyder version, the 246 GTS, followed in 1972. While not quite as fast in a straight line as its larger V12-engined stablemates, the nimble Dino was capable of showing almost anything a clean pair of heels over twisty going.

One of only 254 Ferrari 246 GT Spiders manufactured in right-hand drive form, this superb example comes with the all-important Ferrari Classiche Certificate confirming the original engine, bodywork and original un-repaired chassis. It is also accompanied by the Classiche 'Red Book' (the Classiche inspection was carried out on 15th January 2015).

First registered on 18th April 1973, the Dino was supplied new by Maranello Concessionaires Ltd of Egham to a Mr Collins of Surrey, and was supplied with the optional power windows and headlamp covers. It is understood that the car made its way to Japan in 1990 where it covered just 160 miles while forming part of a private collection for the next 18 years. The Ferrari made its way back to the UK via an Australian auction in 2014 and has belonged to the current owner for the last eight years.

The Dino benefited from a gearbox rebuild in 2014 by Ferrari specialist John Pogson at Italia Autosport, and has been looked after by John since 2014. As well as the gearbox rebuild, the Dino has been maintained and improved. As a result it runs and handles exceptionally well and sounds fantastic.
Finished in Rosso Corsa with tan leather interior, this Ferrari has covered only 57,300 miles from new and is presented in excellent condition. The car is offered with its original order forms, letters of correspondence and Maranello Concessionaires' purchase invoice for £5,816. The original Ferrari tool kit is also present.
