This unusual BSA trials combination was originally constructed by Barry Kefford of Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, who competed with it at Expert level including the 1970 British Experts Trial in the Palmer Challenge Trophy with Mr G Bridgwater in the chair. The BK Special has been in the current vendor's possession for 50 years. Like Barry Kefford, he too competed at Expert level for many years before the combination was laid up. In 2016 he completed a full restoration to a very high standard, since when the machine has been stored. Only mild re-commissioning should be required before further competitive activity. The BK Special has some advanced features: the motorcycle frame and sidecar chassis are constructed as one unit with oil carried in the frame and a remote cartridge-type oil filter. Rear chain adjustment is by means of serrated 'snail cams' at the swinging-arm pivot; the front forks are pressurised; and the engine has been modified to use a Lucas K2F competition magneto rather than the stock battery/coil arrangement. The accompanying history file contains records of the BSA's British Experts Trial entry; photographs of the machine before, during and after restoration; general correspondence; photocopied technical literature; a V5C Registration Certificate; and copies of older registration documents. Last run in January 2022, this historically significant and beautifully rebuilt combination is only offered for sale because the vendor is now unable to ride it.
