1950 Studebaker Commander Starlight Regal Deluxe Coupe
Registration no. 785 YUF
Chassis no. 4435328
Engine no. H412833
In receivership in 1933, Studebaker had been revitalised by the time of the Champion's introduction in 1939, and this new medium-sized model would prove an outstanding success, re-emerging after WW2. In May 1946 Studebaker became the first major American manufacturer to announce an all-new design with the introduction of its 1947 range. Created by two of the greatest automobile stylists of all time - Raymond Loewy and Virgil Exner - the sensational new Studebakers featured a straight-through front wing line, lowered bonnets and, in the case of the Starlight Coupe, an astonishing wrap-around rear window. For 1950 the company introduced another landmark of automotive styling in the form of the 'Bullet Nose' Studebakers that had clearly been influenced by the coming of the 'Jet Age'.
Forming part of the top-of-the-range Commander line-up, this 'Bullet Nose' Starlight coupe is powered by the 245.6ci (4.0-litre) 102bhp sidevalve six-cylinder engine and has the column shift manual transmission with overdrive and 'hill holder' clutch. A Regal Deluxe model, it was one of the most expensive in the Studebaker range. The Studebaker was imported from Oregon, USA by the previous owner, Andrew Schofield, and was purchased from him by the current vendor in 2009. The vendor has provided a list of works carried out during his ownership (inspection recommended) and there is also an email printout from the previous owner listing works carried out prior to his acquisition. This rare and desirable 'Classic American' also comes with sundry invoices and a V5C registration document. A stainless steel windscreen trim, new wiring harness and a quantity of Studebaker Drivers' Club 'Turning Wheels' magazines is included in the sale.
This is an added lot.
