LOT 214
A fine Gerald Wingrove 1:20 scale scratchbuilt model of a 1913 Prince Henry Vauxhall,
Lot 214 is the work of Gerald A. Wingrove MBE - model engineer, and represents the beginning of a very successful career creating exceptional scale models for private collectors around the world, having been made in 1968. This was the first year where it all started and this Lot was only the fourth subject to be modelled It is one of three 1914 Prince Henry Vauxhalls, two with four seater coachwork built for private collectors, and the third - a two-seater - built for the then Montagu Motor Museum. All were built in metal with hard wood interior, in 1/20th scale, as kerbside models, indicating detailing that can be seen with the car standing at the kerb. It is signed Gerald A. Wingrove, indicating it was built before 1980. Models built between 1980 and 2000 were signed Phyllis and Gerald A. Wingrove. It is interesting to compare this with Lot 220, the Weinberger Bugatti Royale in 1/15th scale, almost 230 miniatures on, the last hand made miniature to be built for a private collector before Wingrove's retirement. Bonhams is grateful to Gerald Wingrove for supplying further provenance to this Lot.
