Manufactured between 1964 and 1970, Daihatsu's Compagno range of sedans, coupes and convertibles were stylish little cars and built in reasonable numbers, with approximately 120,000 leaving the factory in this period. The Compagno featured an 800cc four-cylinder engine with a four-speed gearbox. Later examples were powered by a 958cc engine developing 55 bhp, raising the top speed to 130 km/h. With styling by Italian design studio Vignale, the Compagno Spider was introduced in 1965, with additional reinforcement to the chassis and a neat folding hood with its own compartment behind the rear seats. Daihatsu's first foray into the Australian market was courtesy of the Compagno range, which included station wagon and utility versions.
One of very few Compagno Spiders in Australia, this example was previously located in Tasmania and comes with a file containing receipts, old registration documents and other relevant information. Finished in red with black upholstery, the car can fairly be described as an older restoration and presents in good, useable condition. A rare, cute and very enjoyable early Japanese car, the Daihatsu is the perfect antidote to today's bland, homogenous cars. To be sold with a Blue Slip if sold within NSW.
