1911 Mitchell Model T Five Passenger Touring
Chassis no. 18410

The Racine, Wisconsin manufacturer Mitchell developed a reputation for high quality, mid-priced cars. The Mitchell cars were good looking and often incorporated innovative features. They were an early adopter of sliding gear transmissions introducing them in all models in 1904. The company went with an all four-cylinder line up in 1907. The fours had cast-in-pair cylinders with an unusual F-head type valve arrangement with overhead exhaust valves opposite the side valve intake.

This Mitchell Model T features the nice four-cylinder engine with a three-speed sliding gear transmission. The attractive five-passenger touring body is an early example of front doors. Car has correct "two-man" top and nice deep tufted original upholstery.

This is another great project in the Short collection. This Mitchell is a highly original machine in need of a bit of reassembly. The interior is nicely preserved and some careful conservation work could make it look very nice. The paint looks original or very old. The engine compartment looks complete and the overhead valve engine has an exotic appearance.

These Mitchells are good performing tour cars and a welcome change from the hoards of Fords and Buicks on HCCA tours. This car should prove a fun and manageable project to get back up on the road.
