c.1922 Stutz KLDH Roadster Restoration Project
In 1921 Stutz, being one of the last manufacturers to veer from right hand drive, finally introduced the KLDH series. Not only did the KLDH series provide a left hand drive, it also had a detachable head (DH) engine which offered easier de-coking and valve servicing and a slick 'one into eight' intake manifold. Minor changes help boost power to 88 hp; to allow for the left hand, the exhaust manifold had to be reversed so the exhaust pipe exited at the front.
Unfortunately for Stutz it was too little, too late and the KLDH failed to improve sagging sales. As a result the DH cars today, like most Stutz, are quite rare. They are mechanically interesting cars and nice to run for people uncomfortable with right hand drive cars.
This particular KLDH has the remains of a desirable roadster body but unfortunately is in need of a bit of work. The engine, though disassembled, looks relatively complete and much of the rare left hand running gear is present. The body is minimal, just the remains of the rear section. The car does not have any wheels or axles though appropriate wheels could likely be found in the automobilia section of this sale.
Overall this KLDH is a project not for the faint of heart, although undoubtedly one worthwhile. Offered on a Bill of Sale.
